E is for Education

Education is something I am very passionate about and believe everyone deserves the chance to learn. Empowerment comes from feeding your mind with knowledge, and this is something that no one can ever take from you. In this great big world, there are children who are not given the opportunity to learn, and if they are, the conditions of their school is less than worthy.

Recently, I discovered the Traveling Mama blog. It is authored by Tina, who lives in Morocco with her beautiful family. She is very creative, and along with her talented photographer husband, Jack, they have opened up an Etsy shop. This may sound like many other great stories you have heard before in regards to artists, etsy, and travel, but this one is different. You see, Tina and Jack (and their Traveling Tribe), are donating 100% of their Etsy profits to go towards purchasing paint, books, art supplies and more for a school in Morocco. You can read more about this amazing 'tale of a school' here and here. They are using their artistic talents to make a difference in this world and to give others a chance to learn. I am humbled by their goodness and gracious hearts.

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world."

  16. thats amazing. Kudos to her. Education is very important to me too & it's a shame how schools downsize so much on supplies. Thats a wonderful thing that lady is doing.

  17. Thank you for sharing this wonderful couple with us..I'll head over and support their great cause. This is something that I think about a lot. My children go to a private school and I find it absolutely ridiculous that one needs to pay that kind of money to educate a child and others can't receive the same education and perks!! It actually turns my stomach..
thanks for this very important post Mel.

  34. YES!

As a Moroccan-American, I clearly support any efforts to raise awareness of education in that country...or any other place, for that matter.

Thank you, thank you for posting this--education is the key for all our problems.

  36. I am so thankful for this post and for my education. My Grandmother, she had a 3rd grade education and raised 9 glorious children and ran a farm.
She could cook, clean and pray like nobody else. She worked well into her 90's and much of what she did, she did with common sense and lots of love. Each Christmas, I received and envelope with $2 - a $2 bill. I really should frame one. I agree that education is wonderful, but several months ago - there was a wonderful article on the "dumbing down" of America. I think we need to re-evaluate education....and go back to more common sense and self actualization!

My Father-in-law on the other hand, highly educated always reminds me that no-one can take away your education....but we seem to be doing that in our schools...more and more cutbacks for larger parking lots and state of the art smart boards and computers? We need to focus on teachers. See what you started!!!!
