Dearest Gaia Miette,
The role of Mother was never part of my overall life plan,
but you, my sweet crumb, had a different blueprint in mind.
You entered my world and turned it upside down,
proving that life is full of unexpected and beautiful surprises.
I graduated from a top university, read thousands of books, practiced yoga with great teachers,
but you, and your wee self, have taught me more about life than any of the above.
You have shown me the importance of patience, the wonderment of simple things,
the liberation from selfishness, and the significance of living in the moment.
Oddly, I cannot imagine life without you,
And trust me, there was definitely a past filled with lots of extraordinary living.
However, your entrance into my world has only caused me to look forward,
ahead to all the great things you will do, be and give.
The moments we will share together for the rest of our lives,
the numerous times I hope we walk hand-in-hand through it all, the good, the bad, and the spectacular.
My heart is forever changed and filled with an adoration words cannot describe,
and I thank you for diverting my path and adding one of the greatest roles of my life to our story.
Love,
Mama

Every syllable of this beautiful sentiment resonate so deeply with me. Every word expresses exactly how I feel about my little Prince and the journey that led me to him. The life I led before was remarkable but nothing compared to the life he has brought me! Just beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteHave a very special Mother's Day.
xoxo

What beautiful words to your little Crumb. It is obvious what this little girl has brought to your life. So much more that we can ever, ever imagine. My Mother's Day wish for you Mel is simple. May you and your darling family walk slowly through this incredible journey together~ it goes by quickly enough. Happy Mother's Day sweetie.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful and SO TRUE! "Your wee self has taught me more about life..." I couldn't agree more!
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks so much for your thought-provoking comment on my blog - I agree, complex issue with no concrete answers, but one we have to craft for ourselves. I think JennyMac and I drove that point home - thanks for being a part of the convo!
Following you - my first time here and you have an amazing writing stlye! Look forward to blogging with you!
What an uplifting letter, and a very beautiful photo. That would be the very one for her to her on her bedroom wall - it has such an air of setting forth together.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful words to your daughter. You should save these words so she can read them as she gets older. I am sure she will love them.
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother's Day to you!
Beautiful and tear-jerking:) xo
ReplyDeleteSo beautifully said. Motherhood is the greatest gift I have ever received:) you have inspired me to do a post like this!
ReplyDeletewhat a beautiful gift to your daughter. happy mother's day to you.
ReplyDeleteglorious mel!
ReplyDeletei know these words are for precious gaia, but {oh my dear} how they struck a cord in me.
you ooze mother to me. i assumed you were speaking "mommy" as long as you could remember. it's women like you and karey mackin who make me quite sure i'm out of my league to ever attempt such an undertaking. although, deep down the gift of a child causes me to catch my breath.
but then you write it wasn't in your "overall life plan"? i don't don't know why, but this gave me such relief. i don't feel so alone. thank you so much for this post.
oh how lucky we all are your plans were changed!
happy mother's day.
love,
katie

Dear Mel,
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful words and, such a true reflection of motherhood. Sometimes we have our life all mapped out and sometimes it changes....for the better. Also, as we get a little older we want different things out of life.
We had our Mothering Sunday in March, here in the U.K. so I will wish everyone celebrating Mother's Day the BEST day. XXXX
happy mother's day mel!
ReplyDeleteI hope you share this with her when she is older. The photo is stunning. Your words are beautiful. I hope you are having a wonderful day. Blessings...Mary

Oh Melissa, this makes me cry, such beautiful words about motherhood and what it means to you. I am feeling a bit blue today, ok a lot blue. I need to get myself back to a place where I cherish this mothering gig as much as you do. Not feeling it today but it is something to aspire to. You are such a great girl. I am glad I know you. Look forward to meeting you someday IRL. I really mean that My Friend.

ReplyDeleteDear Mel~
ReplyDeleteMy Mother's Day wish to you is coming a day late.. I hope you had a wonderful day with your little Crumb and Sean. You are an incredible mother inside and out. This letter to your "wee" crumb pauses life for a second.. I have to say, you always have a way of doing that here on your blog for me. You always have your magical way to remind me to appreciate life's precious moments.
I received some spectacular French paper in the Mail on Friday along with a note that spoke your voice and your kind unconditional loving heart! Thank you Mel from the bottom of my heart for such a note and the most beautiful paper.. I can see why it's Sean's favorite. Not surprised one bit knowing he's as picky as me ;) I'm going to go look at the website and do some research. Thank you both! I love the way it was tied with the tri detail of twine :)
Much love to you always and I hope you have a beautiful week!
Xoxo Noel
