Imagination is the great spring of creative activity ~ the fountain of artistic fantasies which are the daydreams of children grown up. Paradoxical as it may seem, the right way to conceive and practice art, regardless of the degree of efficiency, is with the viewpoint of a child.

A few weeks ago, we attended the Catalan Festival, and every single one of us within this family of three had the. best. time. Incredible music, soul-touching dancing, bright sun shining day, endless flowing of bubbly, and memories being recorded through art. Sean's idea to encourage our crumb's artistic interests ~ a journal, paintbrush, and watercolors are always at the ready for when she feels inspired to paint.
A very fine chip off the old-papa tree, don't ya think?
One of the best gifts is to inspire one's offspring to have time to imagine, to create and to feel inspired from all life's goodness.

I am dying. Love this. And now I remember drawing to music as a kid. I think that was at school? with my mom? I clearly remember drawing scribbles to Peter and the Wolf. Big black scary lines, soft green circle...strange memory. I must do this with B soon. Very soon.
ReplyDeleteWhat joy....I want to paint to music now. I think I will give it a go...painting my great-room walls but it may not be such a good idea to paint to this kind of music while doing that.
ReplyDeleteHugs. xoxoxo
Wow, that was really cool!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea!
ReplyDeleteOh my, how much the little Crumb and Amelia have in common! I have moved Amelia's easel to the kitchen and at her whim, Amelia's watercolors are always ready for her use! We've toted this easel to the garden several times for some nature painting (one of these days I will post about it!)
Aaron and I fell in love with Flamenco music several years ago during our short visit in Barcelona. Every now and then, we pop in the CD and the clapping and dancing begins!
Why can't we live closer to one another???
I love this post and the little video of Gaia.

Maybe I need something like this. I've never been much of a painter, but it's worth a try. Anything to get me out of this funk I've been in. Applying to jobs is anything but fun.
ReplyDeleteHi Mel,
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your crumb's painting.....it's brilliant and has really captured the movement of the dance and the dancers skirt. She has definitely inherited the artisitic gene !! The video is terrific and it looks as if a good time was had by all ! XXXX
I love how crumb keeps going to the red paint while listening to the music.........makes sense to me! I am sure she has papa genes and looks like her mother's beautiful hair Mel. Can't believe how big she is getting, we have watched her grow these past few years. Much love XO and xo
ReplyDeleteSo fabulous! Love the colors matching the dancer. I want to go to the next one!!!
ReplyDeleteI bet her Papa is proud! I love, love, love that you took paint supplies with you. You are teaching her the best lessons and raising her in such a beautiful way.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite memories with my nephew is when I set him up with paints and he made the loveliest pictures... it's a wonderful period before they start critiquing and just paint!
ReplyDeleteSuch a big smile on my face after reading your post and watching the video...I need to get my paints our right away while I'm inspired!
ReplyDeleteThis is so great. Love the dancing, love the water coloring.

I love going to festivals with my family and completely losing ourselves in activities there. I also love how your daughter is totally engrossed in her art. So cool! Katie
ReplyDeletelove her painting, it actually looks like the flamenco dancer spinning with her dress pulled out!
ReplyDeletewhat a wonderful time you had!
xx

A brilliant post, Catalan is great fun, and then you have flamenco. This is the script for families coming together. I once saw Nacho Blanco perform. It was from heaven, or from another world. And painting when some one is dancing- just see the red turning in to maroon! I have given a link to my Facebook so that children could learn painting.
