Blackberry Picking

"At first, just one, a glossy purple clot

among others, red, green, hard as a knot.

You ate that first one and its flesh was sweet

like thickened wine: summer's blood was in it

leaving stains upon the tongue and lust for picking."
~ Excerpt from "Blackberry Picking" by Seamus Heaney

  9. We have a tree overhanging on to our driveway that I clean up any day, the birds love these blackberries. I do too but buy them at the store as it is not my tree so I don't just help myself. They probably wouldn't notice......maybe I will. XO and xo
