I have a major coop crush.
I cannot stop thinking about these adorable Bantam variety of chickens that have made The French Laundry garden their new home. It is definitely the equivalent to a five-star resort in the world of chickens....umbrellas for shade, a customized coop with a tres chic blue door, their very own rows of napa cabbage to munch on, and hand-fed snacks of strawberries, carrots, purslane, and more from the chief gardener.
While admiring our newest neighbors, we had the honor of chatting with their 'land-lord', Thomas Keller. It was one of those surreal moments for a foodie like me ~ standing in an organic garden, crushing on chickens, and making small talk with one of the most talented chefs in the world.
Sometimes life is so good you just have to pinch yourself.

i completely understand this.
ReplyDeletei have a client....now, of course, friend for life. she has two twin boys...growing twin boys. they eat her out of house and home....literally. it's all about the eggs in their home. those boys love their eggs. so this year for her birthday she has asked for a chicken coop and a small set of precious, egg bearing chickens. she lives in track home irvine, but is building a country paradise in her backyard where she will gather her families eggs for the day each morning...so romantic.
guess who now wants a chicken coop too?
French Laundry!!! Next time we are in napa that is the top of our list of restaurants. We went to Cyrus, which was divine!! I still think about that dinner. :)
ReplyDeleteYah, so I don't even know where to start with this one...can we talk for a moment about the handsomeness of Chef Keller? Good lord, woman. How did you hold on to the camera. I would have been shaking and mumbling and bright red. Oh it would be pretty. And your chicken photos are so darling. I looked at mine last night and they were not so good. I love that I can now remember this through your lens. A lovely post. Miss you.
ReplyDeleteWhat a glamorous chicken abode!
ReplyDeleteI just returned from a visit with my cousin who lives in the country graced by organic raised beds, a chicken coup, a small black goat with a little bell, and the sunset only obscured by trees and hills. I, too, had a little crush or shall I say envy???
I hope all is well with you, my friend,
Mandy
Wow. Seriously. Wow. A chat with Thomas Keller. I would've swooned! And his chickens are certainly living the lush life.
ReplyDeleteMy sister-in-law started raising chickens last fall, and she's getting pretty serious about it. While their digs are nowhere near as fab as the Keller chickens' coop, my crush grows every time I visit her!
xoxo Gigi
That is one seriously chic coop!
ReplyDeleteI am dying to visit The French Laundry! I have Thomas Keller's Ad Hoc cookbook and every recipe is amazing! You are a lucky lady indeed!
P.S. I just realized that I used far too many exclamation points in that last comment. Clearly, I was a little excited :)
ReplyDeleteOh I visited there years ago on my last trip to Napa. I still vividly dream of it! How amazing that you got to speak to him :)
ReplyDeletei love thomas keller!!! i'm seriously jealous in a very bad way... love the pics and this post!
