Plate for Two ~

To this day, every time I see a plate of spaghetti, I think of Disney and the noodle strung between the two love-struck doggies.  Hopeless romantic?  Yes.  And despite the fact some cultures seriously frown upon sharing a plate of food, I still find it incredibly wonderful {and healthy}.  Let's face it, portions have gotten out of control {ahem, USA}.  And most times when dining in restaurants, Sean and I split an entree or order two appetizers, and we leave feeling pleasantly satisfied and happy versus overstuffed and dull.  Not to mention the fact, it's delightfully cozy to share a plate for two.

This past week for lunch, I prepared and placed this salad between us.  It was so easy, refreshing, and filling.  We found ourselves waiting to see who would take the last bite ... it is that good.

Avocado-Grapefruit Salad

2 Grapefruit peeled and cut into bite-size pieces
1-2 Avocado cut into  bite-size pieces
Lettuces of choice
Splash of Olive Oil {optional}
Salt  & Pepper to taste

Arrange lettuce, grapefruit and avocado on plate, drizzle olive oil if desired {although, the juices from grapefruit is season enough}, and add salt and pepper.

  1. My husband and I shared a plate of salad and pasta and were so happy.
    Not overly unhappy that we selfishly needed our own plate. sharing is so much more satisfying.

  3. Hi Mel,
    Apparently, it's portion size that is making the world obese so, it's such a good idea to share, isn't it ?..... and, your salad looks a delicious way of doing just that. I often have a starter as a main course and , it always suffices.
    Have a lovely week Mel. XXXX

  15. I'm so glad Brandi tweeted about this salad.. it looks so yummy & healthy!

    Also, I completely agree with you about portion sizes in the US. I don't think there was a single time I went to a restaurant that I didn't have to pack half of the meal to take home.

  19. I Love avocado and grapefruit together! Sometimes if I want a protein I add grilled or poached chicken slices.

    I agree about portion sizes. Even in nicer restaurants they've gotten out of control. We do the same thing you do- except I almost always have to have dessert!
