Fragile

Constantly, I am reminded of how precious and fragile life truly is ~ some days are heavier reminders than others {our thoughts are with many who are suffering today}.  So much can change in a blink of an eye.

This sweet little hummingbird suffered a crash landing into the glass door, and our cat, Cookie, ever-so-gently picked this tiny beauty up in his mouth and carried to Sean.  Rarely does a  hummingbird remain still long enough to leave the onlooker time to admire its stunning magnificence.  Sitting in the palm of Sean's hand, he/she breathed, blinked its eyes, and partook in the offering of sugar water.  And then, like a flash, it raised its body, fluttered its wings while hovering at eye level for a span of time {as if to say thank you} and then raced off with a fellow companion who showed up to add moral support.

Kind words, simple gestures of a hug, a smile, a hand to hold, prayers and wishes, we are all here to help one another ~ great or small.

  6. Mel, I don't even know what to say about this. That sweet little bird is so beautiful and yes, fragile. What an amazing experience. I always need a reminder to stop and take notice and give thanks. And I always appreciate it when that reminder comes from a special friend.

  12. i think that Cookie was a real hero. Many cats would have swallowed that beautiful little bird quickly. But Cookie chose to save him by delivering him to Sean. Go Cookie!

  13. So poignant. Every time I see these massive tragedies in other lands, I think of my tiny girl left alone on a doorstep at just three days old. Every time I see a child crying on a news video, I think of her at two years, struggling for breath after a surgery. I feel deeply for everyone who has lost someone, or nearly lost someone.

  15. incredible. i think it's a male anna's hummingbird, which looks a lot like the male costa's hummingbird, but the white "eye" behind his actual eye is the giveaway. SO REMARKABLE- thanks for sharing these gorgeous shots!

  16. Oh Mel,
I adore humming birds. We don't have them here but, when we were the States, following the Appalachian trail and in Zion Canyon we saw them. They are so beautiful and the colouring of their feathers is out of this world. The equivilant here are kingfishers. They are my favourites.......and, how lovely that he survived his crash and flew off again to live another day.
So sorry that I haven't been around lately......I'm having terrible trouble with my computer AND Blogger. Here's hoping that I'll be back on track soon. Much love. XXXX
